An exploration into the art of harvesting from the land + water through hunting, fishing, and farming. This workshop will be an opportunity to learn about these practices, no matter your level of experience or exposure. Our goal is for you to leave this container with the knowledge and confidence to start building your own relationship with harvesting and providing.
We will cover practical details about when, where, and how to practice harvesting from the land + water in the PNW and beyond. There will be space for collective sharing, storytelling, and answering of specific questions, as well as opportunities to discuss the ethics of harvesting and how to harvest in a way that supports continued harvests for generations to come.
NICK CANINO
Nick is a land tender, artist, and seedkeeper currently living in Portland, OR. He is a child of the PNW, who grew up living in the city but got exposed to the wilderness at a young age. His father taught him how to hunt and fish as a teenager, and he taught himself how to farm as a young adult. His passions have always centered around self-reliance, cultivation of medicine, and primitive skills.
Now in his 30s, he runs a nonprofit organization called Rhythm Seed Farm which works to reclaim seeds in the hands of the people through seed saving education. When he isn't busy with his hands in the earth, he can be found playing with his dogs, or deep in the music: drumming, freestyling, and cutting up vinyl records.
