Have you ever wondered what the world might be like if people sang more often?

Have you ever wanted to channel your own songs, but aren’t sure where to start? 

Join longtime friends, neighbors, community singers and co-liberators Brian ‘Yam’ Dwyer and Thomas Promise as they playfully explore the ancient art of song divination (aka ‘song catching’) in the context of sacred everyday life. 

Participants will be equipped with tools to help support them on their journey Selfward, as well as learn various tips and truths about how to listen in deeply to the music within (and all around us) and turn it into a song. All voices welcome. No prior experience with singing, music or song catching is necessary to attend this workshop. For the highest personal and collective benefit!

BRIAN "YAM" DWYER

Brian 'Yam' Dwyer is a community song leader, music weaver, rhythm bringer and student of emergent ritual space. He knows music to be a living line of connection and communication to our ancestors, the wider cosmos and our more-than-human kin. Brian has been a student of music, rhythm and improvisational singing for over 30 years, has been studying ritual, transformative men's work and ceremonial spaces for 7 years, and has been holding space for grief-tending with other community members in the Cascadia Bio-region since 2022. He currently resides on the unceded ancestral lands of the Lummi, Nooksack and other Coast Salish peoples (otherwise known as Bellingham, WA), where he is a dedicated mystic, villager, co-parent and father of a 10-year-old son.

THOMAS PROMISE

Thomas Promise likes to have fun singing. Vocal noise bands, summer camp singalongs, barbershop quartets and ritual freedom jams are some of the sonic organisms of which he has been a cell. Music has been a golden cord for him to hold on to anytime he's been laid low. He's here to prove that whatever voice you were blessed with is the perfect voice to amplify your prayer and sing with others. You will move your whole body and whole heart when you sing with him. Thomas is currently helping to bring to life a reparations and mutual aid-based community land trust in Belfast, ME. He's learning to trust the deeper currents that move through all things.
